In 2010 when there is a global recession it is becoming more and more difficult for people taking part in sponsored events to reach the targets laid down by the charities. This applies mainly to people who have been given a place in an event by a particular charity in exchange for raising money for them.
So many charities are competing against each other for sponsorship, they have raised their ceiling and are giving people higher targets they have to achieve. This creates a "chicken and egg" situation with fewer people applying to charities for a place in an event because of the amount of sponsorship they are asking for so the charities are missing out as well as the participants
