Since the late, great bear market of ’08 to ’09, exchanges have seen a massive net outflow of funds. This means that individual investors are taking out more money than they put in to the mutual fund portion of their investment portfolios. If you believe surveys quoted in the financial press, investor sentiment remains decidedly negative. In fact, despite an epic rally in domestic markets in 2009, over three trillion dollars remain in money market funds, and the flight to the safety of bonds continues.
